Maglor had just opened up a music shop selling instruments, vinyl records, and memorabilia. It was on Sesame Street in New York, the equivalent of Chinatown or Little Italy for Muppets - the more diverse population made him feel at home, as one of the last few Eldar in the world. To celebrate the grand opening, he'd sprung for catering from Nicholas, a handsome older gentleman who owned a French cafe right next door.
Maglor had visited Sesame Street enough times before deciding to move there that he knew people would be friendly, but the extremely warm reception surprised even him - almost everyone from the neighborhood came to welcome him. Enough so that he was worried maybe he hadn't gotten enough refreshments. The cookies were the first thing to disappear, thanks to Cookie Monster.
Cookie looked somewhat remorseful when he realized he'd lost control of himself. "OH, ME SORRY. ME SHOULD HAVE LEFT SOME FOR OTHERS."
"It happens," Maglor said, not sure whether to be annoyed or amused, or both. He sighed. "I suppose I could run to the cafe and buy more cookies -"
"THAT EXPENSIVE. ME COULD HELP MAKE MORE COOKIES." Cookie Monster tilted his head to the side and gave Maglor a thoughtful look. "YOU ELF. ELVES MAKE COOKIES."
"The ones that live in a tree do," Maglor corrected him. "I'm a different species."
"ME... LOVE. ELF COOKIES." Cookie Monster couldn't disguise the disappointment in his voice.
"Well..." Maglor patted him. "Tell you what, I'll take you up on your offer. It should only take an hour, right?" He whistled to get everyone's attention. "Hey folks, I'm stepping out for a bit, if you need to buy anything my assistant will help you." Maglor gestured to Telly.
Maglor lived in the apartment above his store - he was still getting unpacked and settled in, but he'd gone to the supermarket last night for supplies and had enough to make a decent-sized batch of chocolate chip cookies. Cookie Monster arrived with a chef hat and apron, and ceremoniously put it on his new friend. Maglor put on some music as they worked together making the dough, rolling it out, cutting it into circles, and then they waited.
Once the cookies were ready, Cookie Monster clasped his paws together. "OHHHHHHHH, THEY LOOK DELICIOUS! ME CAN HARDLY WAIT -"
"Now Cookie," Maglor said, waving a finger, "you can have some of them for helping, but these are to replace the ones you ate, so you can't have all of them. You need to share. OK?"
"ALLLLLLLLLL RIGHT. ME WILL BEHAVE MESELF. ME PROMISE."
Maglor and Cookie Monster took the trays of cookies down to the shop - to his credit, Cookie managed to carry the tray of cookies without giving into his baser impulses. When they rejoined the party, Maglor was surprised to see Nicholas there, who had brought six more big boxes of assorted cookies. "On me," Nicholas said, smiling. "To be a proper neighbor."
"Well, thank you." Maglor bit his lower lip, trying not to notice how handsome the silver-haired and bearded gentleman was, with that deep, resonant voice. He definitely noticed Nicholas was wearing a rainbow Pride pin on his apron and Nicholas's hands were ringless - he was gay and he might be single. Maglor offered Nicholas one of his homemade cookies, feeling like he was offering Van Gogh a crayon picture. "My gratitude."
Nicholas nibbled it, and he said, "These are quite good!"
Maglor smiled, sensing the compliment was honest.
Cookie Monster put an arm around Maglor. "ELVES MAKE BEST COOKIES."
"I'm not that kind of elf," Maglor reminded him under his breath.
Bert and Ernie each took one of the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. "Maybe you guys could talk shop about... baking," Ernie suggested, followed by a "kekekeke" that let Maglor know his crush on Nicholas was as plain as day, or at least to his fellow gays.
Nicholas smiled. "That would be delightful."
Maglor's stomach was all butterflies now. "I suppose it would be nice to get to know my neighbors better."
"That's the spirit, a-a-a-a-aaaaa," Bert laughed, and he and Ernie walked off, snickering.
"ME HELPED!" Cookie Monster helped himself to a cookie. "ME MESSED UP BUT ME MADE IT BETTER AND NOW EVERYBODY HAPPY."
"Yes, you did a good thing," Maglor said, handing Cookie Monster another cookie. "You deserve a reward."
"KOWABUNGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" With that, Cookie Monster opened up one of the boxes of cookies Nicholas had brought, and poured it into his mouth, devouring the cookies in a storm of crumbs.
