SV: As the younger brother of both Elwë and Olwë, Elmo was one of the few Quendi who travelled back and forth between Aman and Middle Earth on his kinsman Círdan’s ships. Mortal mariners came to associate the lightning-like phenomenon that occurred around their ships with him, to the extent that millennia later, the occurrence was still named for him - although the name was assumed to relate to St. Elmo | Erasmus of Formia.
